ABOUT US

The work of the painter Elfriede Lohse-Wächtler (1899-1940) nowadays is among others one of the most significant rediscoveries in the world of art of the 1920s and 1930s. The sponsoring associaton named after her since its foundation in 1994 added essentially to acknowledge the most fateful and idiosyncratic work of the painter in relation to her lifetime and to open and acquaint it again to a wider public. We feel furthermore obliged to these aims. We therefore support exhibition projects with loans from private portfolios and are happy to assist with loan requests. Furthermore we promote events (lectures/symposia etc.), publications and research projects that are related to the work, the life and the artistic sphere of this painter. The sponsoring associaton Elfriede Lohse-Wächtler supports the work of the exhibiton institutions and gives a valuable contribution to the preservation, exploration and mediation of the artisitic work of Elfriede Lohse-Wächtler.

The artistic creation of Elfriede Lohse-Wächtler involves watercolors, paintings, lithographics and drawings. Only a part of it was found in the legacy of her brother. Many works though are considered lost or forgotten. If any works of this artist should be in your possession we would be very grateful for a notice, illustration.
